For a long time I've been wanting
to expand the choices of my scarf and shawl rings, and to offer them in a
range of high quality lacquer in beautiful colors.
In the beginning, I thought the process of lacquering would also be a wonderful way to rescue horn or wood rings which, although perfect in shape and craftsmanship, came in colors that fell out of the color families. But during the research, tests and trials it became clear that the lacquer collection would become much more than a rescue operation... the exquisite quality of lacquer with it's high polished finishes and fantastic color possibities make them a fresh and modern companion for our scarves, and perfect to compliment/expand the natural shades of the horn and wood collection.

It took a long time finding lacquer artists who could produce the outstanding quality I was looking for. Many more trials to get the colors right followed. They had to be more than just beautiful shades, but also to be versatile enough to blend in easily with the various colors surrounding them (see examples with scarves below). I am so happy to finally be able to bring you the MT scarf and shawl ring lacquer collection, available in seven colors:
Vert Sapin

Bordeaux

Vieux Rose

Bleu Canard

The base of the lacquered rings are exquisitely hand made horn or wood rings from my
collection. For price information or to place an order, please go to: www.scarfrings.com
Lacquered items have an extremely smooth, hard and durable surface. To
ensure that your lacquered scarf and shawl rings keep their perfect
shine, and to protect them from surface scratches, please store them in
the velvet pouch they come with. Also note that lacquer might chip if
dropped from a
height onto a hard surface.
Magnifiques, raffinées ... I'd like to buy them all !

Catherine
Thank you, chère Catherine <3 So happy you like them, and hope yours will be with you soon!
DeleteI know exactly what you mean, chere Catherine!
DeleteIls sont vraiment rafinés! <3
Manuela
You are right dear Manuela, let's take all the pleasures in our lives and especially if they are so tiny that could silently run away if we don't pay enough attention. Thanks to our leader in chief MT we have almost every day the opportunity of sharing a bubble of happiness in a peaceful and refined place.... <3
DeleteCatherine
Dear Catherine, I love the way you wrote it.
DeleteI am as grateful as you are and look so much forward to new posts always!!!
Love our little corner of the web. Bonne journée! <3 Manuela
Dear ladies,
DeleteLet me tell you : these lacquered rings are even more beautiful in real than seen on pictures (yes, it is possible). Clay and vieux rose this time but soon I'll try more audacious ones!
Have a nice day!
Catherine.
Fifi,
DeleteIf I remember well, we are twins on Collier de Chiens (Rose Perle/Gris/Noir), the ring vieux rose matches perfectly well !!!!
Hugs,
Catherine
Oh Catherine -- I just saw this post! You're right - I was thinking the Clay, forgetting about the rose in the colorway. You've got a good eye! Thanks for steering me in the right direction!
DeleteAloha,
Fifi
Ooh la la! I LOVE these MaiTai. So amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, dear K!
DeleteCongratulations on your lacquer collection MaiTai, the colors are absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't help myself, I ordered two. I can't wait to receive them and start experimenting. I'm thinking you have another hit on your hands and this one is out of the ballpark! Thank you for sharing with us, your classic and beautiful style. Hugs, Simone
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the order and lovely comment, dear Simone! So thrilled you like the new collection <3
DeleteI think that your task to find the right lacquer artist was not an easy task (I have certain knowledge about lacuqering...so many options to make a mistake). But, I truly know (know, not only "hope") that you did the job with the much needed persistence and wonderful result.
ReplyDeleteThe colour family is beautiful. Looking forward to your upcoming combos with these new rings!
I agree with Catherine, it would be best to buy them all!
Hugs, Lea
Oh my dear Lea, I can't tell you how much time it took... persistence was certainly the most important ingredient in the process! So happy you like them, thanks so much x
DeleteDear Lea, it's a great temptation isn't it?
DeleteCatherine
It is a huge temptation, you are right, my dear Catherine!
DeleteI have been thinking about the "lacquered scarf ring set", as I can find the right place for all colours in my H collection!
Dear MT has done the job with attention to each detail, including the colour selection. I adore her talent to make her collection pieces with so much passion and attention to detail.
I imagine now the rings in all colours should be named "lacquer coloured scarf ring set", but there is a charm in clicking one by one...paying attention to them and their beauty.
Hugs to you and our dear group, I imagine us completing their MT articles collection.
Like a movie :)
Hugs
I like your solution of a "lacquer coloured scarf ring set" ! A touch of elegance and refinement makes our days sparkling and lighters... thanks a million to MT!
DeleteCatherine
:-) Dear MaiTai,
ReplyDeletelovely! As much as I like your neutral and beautiful horn scarf rings, I am a fan of color as you know, so I'll gladly put in an order :-)
Have a very HAPPY week! :-)
Congratulations on the lovely and colorful additions to the collection.
ReplyDeleteI think I remember when you started the process . . . it was a long, LONG time ago, but your persistence and insistence on perfection have certainly paid off - you've got another winner!
Now I have to go home and prowl through the scarf drawer . . .
Congratulations,
Jerrine
Aren't these little jewels divine,Jerrine? I have made a HUGE mess while going thru my scarves and no time to straighten,as work beckons...but a beautiful mess it is;-)
DeleteOk, now I am dreaming of lacquered cuffs now that our talented friend has perfected the process! Have fun deciding! T
I'm dreaming of cuffs too, AND pendants! What a lovely rainbow!
Delete--Azalie
Well, Trudye, I didn't get to the scarves last night. I'm currently embroiled in creating a shelter for two feral cats I've been taking care of for the past 2-1/2 years. Now that's been decided upon, maybe I can get into that scarf drawer tonight.
DeleteI wonder if there will be a summer range of colors, too. I can just see Hermes orange, raspberry, bright turquoise, sun yellow, lime green, etc. But time to get to the lovely colors at hand. And, yes, I'm betting she could make some fabulous cuffs and pendants for Azalie, as well.
After all, what CAN't she do!
Best,
J.
Oh, bless you Jerrine, for caring for those cats. I work with pug rescue and have pugs of my own. They enrich my life. Just keep your scarf drawer locked!
DeleteWarm aloha,
Fifi
Pugs are wonderful little dogs, aren't they, Fifi - so comical but so loving. High praise to you for giving them a helping "paw."
DeleteI had four kits I was caring for, but we lost one last summer to the busy streets, and one just mysteriously disappeared a few months ago, which was heart breaking. But, we're doing our best to make sure that the remaining two, Louie and LBD (Little Black Dress) are happy and healthy. It's daunting in a large city like Atlanta, but we try.
Yes, one must guard the silks when pets are in the house. I came home one night to find my late cat, Lily, curled up in my top scarf drawer. I nearly had a heart attack, imagining the damage I was about to find from her claws, but ever the lady, she hadn't snagged a single one - was just admiring them, I guess.
Safeguard your MT scarf rings, too. I imagine that they'd be quite appealing "toys" for the pugs, but I don't think little bite marks would enhance the appearance of that lovely lacquer :-)!
All the best to you and your pug kids,
Jerrine
Yes, bless you,J for your work with those furbies and providing food and shelter for the remaining two! Yes, like minded souls gathered here<3 T xx
DeleteOK, if I ever adopt a black pug, I will have to name her LBD - love that!
DeleteYes, Trudye, I think there are a lot of animal lovers among us, and that's wonderful, as if people don't love animals, I don't tend to love them!
DeleteFifi, while I can't take credit for the name, I still think it's wonderful. I call her LB for short for some silly reason.
Congratulations on your new lacquer collection, what a really great addition to your MT collection! It's really hard to make a decision which colour to take (first). Thank you so much for your creativity! Best wishes Claudia
ReplyDeleteDearest Mai Tai,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!! Your new rings are magnifiques!!!! <3
I agree with Lea. I can imagine how hard it must have been to find the right artisans, the right, colours and material.
But I can tell you, my dear, the result is sublime and you always have such a great taste!!! <3
To the small pleasures in life! A big hug to you, Manuela
I think this lacquer launch deserves a toast with the the bubbly, dear Manuela!
DeleteChin chin to our fearless leader and the small pleasures in life!
Have a super week! T xx
Trudye and Manuela, I think your order should be shipped with a bottle of Champagne!:-)
DeleteA votre sante, ladies,
Jerrine
ITA, Jerrine;-)
DeleteDear Trudye and Jerrine, to our dearest Mai Tai and this wonderful blog!
DeleteBubbly hugs to both of you, Manuela
These look really wonderful. Now all I have to do is decide on the right colours and save up! Brilliant idea. By the way, are you thinking of restocking the faux fur collars? I really cannot wear real fur.
ReplyDeleteDear Mai Tai,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the new lacquer! I discovered your blog a week and a half ago, and have been thoroughly enjoying it daily since then. What a pleasure to discover your elegant presentations and composure! I have been educated and inspired, and overall enchanted - both by your shared experiences and the lovely community here. In addition to immersing myself in the archives and learning new knots, my scarf and bag collection has now been enhanced by the eminent arrival of a number of your inserts, pochettes, necklaces, and scarf rings. Thank you; my must-read list is short, but has now grown with this exciting twist.
New orange best wishes,
Kristen
Welcome dear Kristen in "MaiTai's Addicts'Club", a group of wonderful super ladies!
DeleteCatherine
Welcome Kristen to your new "addiction"! Our dearest Mai Tai is both inspirational and beautiful, both inside and outside :)
DeleteAs Catherine and haverfordgal so well put it, welcome to your addiction, Kristen. (You'll soon find that Monday is your new favorite day of the week, as that's the day a new post usually goes up. It definitely makes Monday bearable!)
DeleteSo happy you found us,
Jerrine
Welcome, Kristen, to the lovely and gracious world of MaiTai. I remember first discovering the blog and reading through all of the archived posts. It was total immersion therapy! Have fun with your new arrivals from the MT collection. I am salivating over the new lacquer colors - which to choose first??
DeleteWarm aloha,
Fifi
Welcome,Kristen to the slippery slope here at Mai Tai's! We are a like minded, spirited group that will generously welcome you into the fold!
DeleteHave fun playing with your new goodies...they won't be the last!
Best,
Trudye
Thank you for the warm welcome, ladies! I agree all around – I seem to already be thoroughly addicted :) . Jerrine, thank you for the Monday tip – that will certainly be a good start to the week. Fifi, immersion therapy is a great way to describe it – I love the confluence of style and elegant approach, coupled with the memories of my time in Europe (and dreams of more). What a happy confluence; many thanks again to MaiTai for sharing – new and familiar all think you’re tops! :)
DeleteBest Regards,
Kristen
Love love love! If we're allowed to make colour suggestions for the future I'd love to see orange!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly! Bring on the orange! :)
DeleteI want orange too!!!!
DeleteThey are absolutely perfect. I will have to have a play in my scarf drawer and decide which ones best suit. Once again you have developed a truly elegant product. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDear Maitai,
ReplyDeleteNaturally I like the pink one best. Can't wait to see you wearing these. Congratualtions. As always I live in Fear of losing the scarf rings I have!
Life is so complicated and stressful- it's nice to focus on some pretty accessories and plan a few outfits...
Have a lovey week, xxxx
FF, I have an idea that the lovely pink group was designed specifically with you in mind. Now, you'll have to send MT a sample of your fabulous fuchsia lipstick, so she can design some to match!
DeleteBest,
Jerrine
Yes Maitai we need hot pink too!
DeleteWish I could reach through the screen and grab the pink one.
Why are the people who comment round here so nice? x
I don't know, FF, but isn't it wonderful. So many blogs encounter real "pills" who spoil all the fun.
DeleteWe really are a good band of merry followers..like minded souls and all,FF!
DeleteMy theory is that MaiTai has set the tone, and attracts people who have compatible "good vibes." To me this is a lovely oasis of beauty and light-hearted camaraderie. I am grateful to have found it!
DeleteWarm aloha,
Fifi
Trudye, you're definitely right - we are a good group. We deserve a round of applause for finding one another through this lovely blog.
DeleteI think that Fifi is right, though, when she says that MaiTai has set the tone. I mean really, how could we behave badly here and disappoint our gracious leader?
In total agreement that our dearest MaiTai has set the tone, J and FiFi! The mutual love of Hermes is what drew us all here, but it is much, much more that keeps us around!
DeleteThank you very much, Faux Fuchsia for being so kind towards us - if is truly nice to read your comment (I think we already got a nice compliment from you before and I loved it).
DeleteI am in full agreement with the above ladies, we found each other attracted by the atmosphere MaiTai is spreading around.
You are, of course, considered a member of the group.
There is something so special in the air here...
Btw, I am always counting the days when the new post will pop up. My Internet to-do list is very, very short and this is one of my favourite Internet places - I believe, it is applicable to other group members too. :)
Lea
Such a stunning addition to the MT Collection, dear friend! Your painstaking efforts have paid off ' in spades '...expert craftsmanship and color saturation. The colors are stunning, and I,like Jerrine and everyone here, will be sorting thru my scarves and shawls to see which colors work for moi<3
ReplyDeleteI must say, this lacquer post/comment has led to liquor, albeit a glass of red wine, as my comments have disappeared twice! Hopefully, the third time is the charm;)
Sincere congrats on another home run! Celebration hugs, T xx
Poor Trudye, but are you sure it wasn't an excuse to pour yourself another glass of wine?
DeleteThere is something going on, though, as I just had to prove that I wasn't "a robot" and type in some numbers I could barely see. Thank heaven I guessed right. I'd so hate to be excluded from the fun.
Ha,ha;-)
DeleteGod, I hate those robot thingys...I guess wrong half of the time even when I have the right sequence...go figure!
Felucitations dear Msi Tai. All these colours are beatiful.
ReplyDeleteAmities
Minica

Warm regards from Barcelona
Sorry I was writing from tel which does not really work...
ReplyDeleteYes all these new colours of rings are absolutely stunning because sometimes with the brown ones we did not see well the ring.
Once more congratulations for the géniale idea!
Amities
Seven colors... one for each day of the week! So pretty each one of them.
ReplyDeleteMail, please, come fast ;)
Fantastic! Exactly what I wanted. I want them all! Lacquer is so interesting. We visited a few traditional lacquer workshops in Bagan, Myanmar. Before I made my purchases we toured my favourite workshop and met the craftsmen who were so happy to explain the process to us (very much a family business). In Bagan it is done very traditionally. How many layers are the scarf rings?
ReplyDeleteBig congratulations ,
ReplyDeleteFantastic colours now have to just decide on the size and colours I need , best go look in my scarve drawers and decide.
Thank you again for another wonderful scarve rings
They look fabulous !!!
ReplyDeleteWell, phooey. I decided not to wait any longer and tried to place my order only to get a message from PayPal that there is a technical issue and to try later.
ReplyDeleteBy then I will have forgotten which colors I'm trying to order!
Anyone else encounter this little glitch? Of course, I shall not be deterred; I'll keep trying.
Well, the fourth time was the charm. My order was placed. Yea! New scarf rings on the way (or on the way soon.)
DeleteJerrine

DeleteBeautiful colours for the scarf rings!
ReplyDeleteDearest MaiTai, you have done it again! They are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteBonjour Mai Tai,
ReplyDeleteBravo pour cette idée, du coup je ne sais quelle couleur choisir. Ils sont tous plus beaux les uns que les autres.
Suis en pleine réflexion... !
Amitiés,
Anne Marie
They are divine. I want them all!!!! All colours!!! All shapes!!!! All sizes!!!! Really they are so lovely. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteXxxxx
Very nice! I'm going to get my mum some of these scarf rings for Christmas...likely Bordeaux or Vieux Rose.
ReplyDeleteG, I am sure your mother will love these! I just ordered a Bordeaux set. Please order her the sachets...she will adore those,too;-)
DeleteOh my, these are DIVINE!
ReplyDeleteSending waves to you in France, from your home country. Joining the other ladies in raising my glass of champagne to you and the newest additions to the MT Collection. The colors are gorgeous. Well done, dear.
ReplyDeleteWarm orange hugs,
CS
Yum-yum, Mai Tai... I feel as though I am standing in front of the most delicious dessert buffet table, staring at beautiful pastries! I am tempted by every single one of them; but, sadly, I cannot have them all (sigh). Which is it to be? I know that eventually I will own one in every color, but I believe my first will be a shawl ring in that incredible shade of Bleu Marine. I own at least 5 carrés with plenty of blue in them, so a deep blue shawl ring will get a great deal of use. And then, if the Hermes store still has Zebra Pegasus in the light pink CW, I suppose Vieux Rose will be next... Oh, my, the list is endless! Congratulations on your exciting new venture; your creativity continues to astound!
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful! I now have so many great ideas for holiday presents (and a few ideas for me too!) Many thanks for this fabulous blog and for all who share their ideas and comments. I look forward each week to coming to this lovely and nurturing place!
ReplyDeleteDearest MaiTai!
ReplyDeleteI hope this is not a repeat post (I posted a week ago, but didn't see it up here, so re-posting again)...
I'm still enjoying that wonderful series of 'postcards' from London and Carmauge (sp?), and now you reveal these beautiful lacquered gems--magnifique!
What a beautiful way to extend our scarf wardrobes--thank you for your assiduous work in bringing these gems to life!
The cool sophisticated colors are 'just right' for accenting, but not taking the attention away from most scarves. Perfection, dear MaiTai, as always w/ you, sheer perfection!
These are so smooth/glowing, they're almost like jewelry--I can imagine the Anneau scarf ring...a whole bevy of them...laced through a silk chord, worn as a bracelet or a necklace or a solo ring worn as a pendant on a long silk chord.
I can hardly wait for your show-us-how-to-wear-it styling sessions!
Bravo, dear MaiTai! Such a treat to stop by here to behold the beauty of your world. Thanks!
sammie
Oh what can I say...this is without a doubt my most favourite post ever! Not because of what I’ve written, or the launch of the lacquer collection…it’s all to do with you, my dearest darling readers and friends <3 I am blessed to have such a warm and fun group gathering here, and it is because of you, that the comment section has evolved into such a special place. It begins to feel like a magical online ‘salon’, where everyone can come and go, and chat to friends, old and new. Thanks so much everyone for creating this.
ReplyDeleteIt’s been a very busy week, and coming here has been such a treat..loved reading everyone’s comments, and it's been fun to follow the lively chatter and happy banter. Special thanks to all the ‘Super Ladies’ (well said, Catherine!) who kept the party going, and for giving the new faces such a warm welcome. You are the very best!
Thank you also everyone for the wonderful comments and compliments for the lacquer babies, it meant so much to me.
I'm sorry it took so long to get back, and that the next blog post took a little bit longer than usual. I’m working on getting everything back to normal! Have a wonderful week everyone xx
