MaiTai Collection - Scarves

I am so happy and excited to introduce the first scarves to the MaiTai Collection.

It's been a dream for quite some time, and I'm thrilled that it has finally come true. The scarves are lightweight, luxurious and beautiful to the touch, and easy to wear. The fabric is woven by hand from finest light wool mixed with silk, and although the scarves appear light and delicate, they are not prone to snags, pilling and runs.

They come in four soft colors and have exquisitely hand-embroidered tone-on-tone borders, which give a discrete chic and charming touch while blending in perfectly with the base color of the scarf.

The stole format is easy to wear, whether for a chic and casual look paired with jeans, or draped around your neck or shoulders to add an elegant touch to a simple evening outfit.

  3. Dearest Mai Tai,
Congratulations on these beautiful stoles! I love their pastel colours and can easily imagine how soft they may feel around my shoulders on a cool Summer night over a dress. <3
I'm sure they, like all your lovely creations, will be highly appreciated in Le Salon. Thank you for spoiling us. Silky hugs, Manuela

  4. Really gorgeous! By the way, I ordered the lovely shirt in your last post. It is one of the only items of clothing that has had a "I really like that" from DH as I opened the parcel!

Best of luck with your new venture. Now, if you had a teal or a purple....

  5. Well, I'd say that you have got another hit on your hands. These new shawls are so beautiful; so simple, and in simplicity, there is usually great elegance. They'll be a welcome addition to most any wardrobe.

As much as I love the Hermès silk and cashmere prints, there are occasions when they just don't work - when you want something quieter and a bit more elegant. Sometimes, I just don't feel like wearing print anything!

Just as a Birkin doesn't work with a cocktail dress, a print scarf or shawl doesn't work with every dress or ensemble either. (I can feel the glares from all you lovely H. scarf-collecting Salon Swanlets!)

These new lovelies will provide a great alternative for those non-print days. The subtle tonal trim and eyelash fringed hems are just added bonuses to a lovely piece. I think the taupe is my favorite - so chic with black or navy. Uh,oh, I think I just talked myself into one.

    Congratulations!

    Love and admiration,
    Jerrine

    2. Darling Jerrine,

Your observations are always spot on. My impeccable great aunt, who brooked no dissent, always observed that H made " quite acceptable DAYTIME bags." I am thrilled that our dear MaiTai is making this foray into pieces that will be lovely with an evening ensemble. (Of course, these scarves will be beautifully chic by day, as well!) But I know that this project has set me to dreaming of what our resident genius could design in the way of an evening clutch, if she set her talented mind to it.

In the meantime, though, there's certainly plenty to revel in here!

Love to you and all the swans, peacocks, and phoenixes in the flock -- printed plumage or plain, we can happily flock together!

      xoxoxo, Azalie

    3. I will have what Jerrine is having...naughty little enabler you;-)
ITA with everything you have said and then some!
Now off to order before these babies are gone?
Yes, Azalie, we will happily flock together! xxT

    4. Awww, thanks Catherine and Azalie - such sweet ladies. I was afraid that I might be stoned for making that slight rap to the wrist of our favorite brand. (But, you know, goading Hermès is fun once in awhile.)

Azalie, I loved your great aunt's comment - "quite acceptable daytime bags." Of course, she was right. I think what H. does best is exactly that - great casual, sporty daytime bags and totes. They've ventured successfully into the evening hours, but I think they'll always be more comfortable "in the daylight," so to speak.

It makes my teeth hurt to see a Birkin, even a petite one, carried with a cocktail dress or a strapless evening gown. It's a TOTE, regardless of size or skin (and in your great aunt's time, alligator or crocodile were both considered sporty, daytime leathers. One did not carry them in the evening. How times have changed.)

Okay, enough H. bashing. Back to these oh-so-pretty MT creations. I think they'll be a lovely evening accessory that will work with casual ensembles, as well, as demonstrated so well in this post. How great would one look with a satin trench, a cashmere sweater and a pair of jeans and boots? Or, just a simple cashmere sweater and a pair of slouchy wool trousers?

Catherine, I'm very happy to be twins with you. I love taupe. To me, taupe is a timeless, chic color. Guess I'd better get busy and order mine before they're gone. Then I need to go on the search for a perfect taupe cashmere sweater and those matching trousers . . . oh, dear.

      Non-print hugs to you both,
      Jerrine

    5. LOL, we enablers tend to flock together, Trudye . . . kind of like Azalie's swans, peacocks and phoenixes with plumage, printed or plain.

Now, I've really got to stop fooling around and get mine ordered!

      Squawk,
      Jerrine

    6. Oh yes! Another DGA precept: "My dear, reptiles do NOT go out at night." (So nice to have a reason other than poverty not to go trotting around to soirees with a niloticus Kelly clutch tucked under my arm. And don't get me started on colored gems.)

      Happy taupe-ing, my dears!

    7. I love your impeccable great-aunt, Azalie! I would buy a book of her sayings and advice for fashion and living - lavishly illustrated, of course! Jerrine, I ordered the dove gray ombre, so we will be fraternal scarf twins rather than identical! Wanting some quieter options is not equivalent to bashing H, not at all in my view! It is too hot in Seattle right now to think about wearing a scarf outdoors. But they are perfect to warm up an air-conditioned room. I'm excited to get this scarf, and so happy they are snag-resistant. Brava, dear MaiTai!
      Warm aloha to all,
      Fifi

    8. I'm with you, Fifi, in loving that great aunt. "My dear, reptiles do not go out at night," is so funny that it should be embroidered on a pillow!

I love your dove gray ombre; in fact, that was my first choice, and then I spotted the taupe. The ombre will be far more becoming on you with your lovely coloring, and I'm hoping that the taupe won't make me look like a mud pie.

I'm also hoping that the talented MT will keep the color options coming. I would love a black to gray ombre. We should conduct a color poll for her next order!

Enjoy your new beauty . . . come fall. It's sweltering already here, too, and I saw that it will climb to 97 next Wednesday. Pure misery!

      Love,
      Jerrine

    9. Wow, Jerrine - black to gray ombre would be very striking! I'm sure you will not look like a mud pie in your taupe (unless you end up in the mud, of course). But if perchance you do, feel free to send it my way!! OMG, 97. I've wimped out at 84 here in the Seattle area. But then my small apartment has all west-facing windows and totally inadequate air circ. Thank goodness for fans and rickety-rackety old air conditioning units! My dog, Willie, just sleeps on the colder floor, but that really doesn't work for me. I may try sleeping on the balcony next! Stay cool, my dear! xoxo

    10. I just tried to picture your great aunt, Azalie, and what immediately came to my mind was Dowton Abbey's Grandma, LOL. Not quite the right century, but she could have given advice like that:) Very much to the point, anyway! Yes, dear MaiTai, you should take evening bags into account for your next project - if it turns out like all the others before, the results will be stunning! I really LOVE all the colors, the design is both elegant and simple. But they will be sold out before I can even make up my mind which one I want...And then again - you just reminded me that I do have several similar shawls sitting in my cupboard, long forgotten (but also from India, g***). Maybe it's time for clearing out?!
Well, ladies, if you want to wear shawls in summer - come to Germany! We have plenty of cool days, the odd hot day in-between, so you can never get used to either hot or cold...As for today, warm regards!
      Katja

    11. Katja, Germany sounds just lovely! We can all drink champagne and help you clear out your closet. That would be fun!

    12. Dear Katja, you have nailed it! Very much cut from the same cloth as the Dowager Countess, though San Franciscan, and more Lady Mary's generation. But she would have endorsed Fifi's proposed celebration! Another direct quotation: "One can never go wrong with the color celadon. In that respect, it is much like champagne." Although for the sake of thematic unity I wish there were a celadon shawl in the lovely mix above, I'm certainly ready to step in and raise an appreciative glass to subtle colors and the ladies who love them!

Chin chin, and cooling sips to all --

    13. Celadon....I actually had to look up that word....a light green, is it? I love your Great aunt's quotes - lots of very practical hints for dressing (and drinking:)! I'm definitely a lover of subtle colours....beige, taupe, light rose, nude...but there are also those days that cry for pink, yellow and, not to forget: Green!!!! Fifi, you're welcome any time- just not today: it's hot!!! I will have cold champagne ready in the fridge:) oh, but no A/C, just be warnend...

    14. This scarf hits on all the right notes - I'm a fan of the long format, and non-prints are my go-to (despite having collected much H print). Difficult to choose between the taupe and gris perle, but as I have Mai Tai's coloring subbed with dark hair and adore grey, I think the gris perle it must be. In these hot months, it will be perfect for air travel.

(Also: Azalie, I believe your great-aunt is a kindred spirit; and celadon is a lovely color on nearly everyone (and a personal favorite)!)

Jerrine, the lovely way you described the new additions melted my heart. You started a fabulous discussion, and I couldn’t agree more with what has been said. Non print hugs back to you, chère Catherine. Azalia, your great-aunt is definitely our honorary leader! Fifi, grey ombré will be absolutely fabulous on you, and so will Taupe be on you, dearest Truyde. Thanks so much, and hope to see pics of you all one day. Katja, I am practically on my way, and hope the other swans will fly in too. Kristen, so lovely to see you here! Have a most fabulous week everyone xx

  8. Dear Maitai, Congratulations for your first scarf!! IAll colors are soft and beautuful. It's hard to choose one, but I chose gris perle and I had just placed my order. I hope it goes with my favorite gris perle birkin. It is good to know they are not prone to snags, pilling and runs! Erika

    1. Oooooh, Erika, how pretty that combination will be. Gris perle is just plain luscious.

The non-pilling and running factor is an added plus, too. The fragility of H's cashmere GM's as of late is quite alarming to say the least.

      Best,
