Barcelona ~ February 2009

Barcelona is an architectural wonderland. Gothic, Gaudi, Mediterranean, modern... every time you turn a corner there is a new surprise waiting for you.

We arrived in the evening and took a stroll through the harbor. I love the statue of Christoph Colombus pointing towards America. Looking at it through the ship masts in the marina, it appears as if he is standing on a boat...

The next morning we started our sightseeing on the 'Passeig de Gracia', a beautiful wide Boulevard, dotted with orange trees.

the Casa Batllo by Antonio Gaudi (1905 to 1907)

... a few hundred meters further down the road is Hermes

They had a fabulous stock of the SS2009 collection and I decided on the Au Coeur de la Vie mousseline scarf for my souvenir from Barcelona

The most famous church in Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia by Gaudi. It is under construction since 1882 and financed by donations only.

It's come a long way since 1892..

.. but it's still got a long way to go..

..inside the church, wearing Quadrige

On our last day we went to the Olympic port, a fabulous beach area constructed for the Olympic games in 1992. I was so looking forward to see the gigantic whale made of bronze by Frank Gehry and was not disappointed, it is amazing!

The boardwalk starts right there, lined with cafés and restaurants. We settled down in a Lounge café, enjoyed a glass of champagne and some delicious tapas.
