I am very proud and happy to introduce the new generation of the MaiTai Collection bag inserts today.
To
the eye, there has not been much change. They are as exquisitely made
and as pretty as always and, of course, they are still made in France by
skilled and specialized craftsmen in the fine tradition of French
savoir faire.
The
innovation of the new generation lies within, invisible to the eye -
the insert's construction has been completely reworked. The new
generation inserts have a perfect balance between firmness and
softness, which means that they are as gentle to the bag as before,
but now stay beautifully in shape at the same time.
Light and sturdy, they don't weigh your bag down and yet remain in perfect shape
Because
of the
new super light material within the interlining, the insert's sides
remain straight even when heavier items are placed into the pockets in
an otherwise empty bag.
They
remain a perfect liner. The inserts fit each respective bag like a
glove and leave no gaps between the insert and your bag, so they offer
perfect protection to your
bag's delicate interior leather, making sure it remains pristine and
free of scratches.
As before, every aspect of the design is thought out with the protection of your bag in mind. The
corners and edges are soft, and the seams and pockets are inward facing so that nothing
risks marking or pressing against the leather of your precious bag.
There
is no harsh plastic or cardboard sheeting which could force the leather
against its natural movement or make your bag look boxy (I still firmly
believe that inserts should not be used as a 'shaper' to force slouchy
bags upright, and that rigid inserts risk causing irreparable damage to
your bag). The inserts are still incredibly light - from 79 gr (2.78 oz)
for the smallest to 187g (6.49 oz) for the largest.
A
lot of thought and research has gone
into the new generation inserts, followed by extensive tests and
refinements of prototypes. In the end, I could not be more pleased with
the outcome. However, there is a price to pay - the production of the
new structure is more complex, which is reflected in a small increase in
price.
If you prefer the previous style and appreciate a bargain, some styles and sizes of the previous inserts are still available at a discounted price (fitting Birkin 35 and Picotin 22 and 26 bags).
The new and previous inserts are available here
Dear Mai Tai,
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted (and relieved) that you created an insert for the Bolide 35. I ordered a Bolide In the middle of last year and am looking forward to finally collecting it tomorrow. I will order an insert as soon as I get home from the store.
Thankyou,
DK
Many congratulations on your new Bolide! Love this style bag. Carry her in health and happiness!
DeleteWow, you are truly dedicated to the task of creating the perfect insert, but hard work = perfection. Congratulations - you did it. You created perfection.
ReplyDeleteThe new babies look fabulous, and I love the idea that the insert's sides will stay upright even with a heavy iPhone placed in
one of the pockets.
And, they line the entire base of the bag - wonderful. I think it's so important to protect the WHOLE bag, and having a gap between the insert and the ends of the bag always annoys the H (and I don't mean Hermès here!)out of me. If I toss a small item back into the bag without looking (usually when driving), inevitably it hits the dreaded gap and disappears.
And, they're still so pretty, too. I love the quilting and the embroidered details and the French linen - so nice.
I can't imagine how time consuming this project has been, but we thank you and our precious bags thank you, too.
Love,
Jerrine
Thanks so much for the lovely welcome to the new generation inserts, dearest Jerrine. It's been a very involved project indeed (at one point I thought me and my bags might just as well camp in the atelier!), but it was so much worth it! I couldn't be happier with the result. Much love as always xx
DeleteOh my gosh, I just noticed that you now have an insert for the big Bolide, or I should say the 35 cm Bolide, which they used to refer to as the 37 cm Bolide. Anyone confused?
ReplyDeleteThis is such great news, as while the lovely lambskin lining of the Bolide is so luscious, it's also so easily marked.
Thank you . . . thank you . . . thank you . . . thank you,
Jerrine
The renaming of the big Bolide is confusing indeed! I think it happened around the same time when the Picotins changed from PM/MM/GM to 18/22/26. True re the lambskin lining.. wish I had my inserts when I brought my 31 Bolide home ;)
Delete:-) Congratulations on your new Babies, dear MaiTai!
ReplyDeleteThey look great and I trust they're just as good!
Have a wonderful weekend :-)
Thanks so much, dear HappyFace313! So nice to know you like the new inserts (and yes, they are every bit as good as they look!) Have a great rest of the week!
DeleteLeave it to you, dearest MT, to come up with the new generation inserts! I think perfection is your middle name!

ReplyDeleteBag inserts have been around for some time, but there has never been anything tailor made to fit specific Hermes bag styles and sizes. Therefor I decided to design my own! xx

ReplyDeleteHappy week ahead to you, your « cute hairy son » and all the swans around.

Catherine

ReplyDeleteDearest Mai Tai,
The pretty bag inserts make me wish I had a bag they could fit in. They look great and so well made. I can imagine how much work there is behind creating such an insert. Thank you for keeping on creating beautiful things for us, dear friend. Have a great week ahead. Much love, Manuela xx
Thank you, dearest Manuela, for the sweet and lovely comment! It's been a long process, and I'm so happy you like the result. Have a lovely rest of the week! Much love x
DeleteHello mai tai,
ReplyDeleteAre you planning a "new generation" insert for the Picotin 22? (I just purchased the original design today, as I did not see the new available for this bag... but perhaps I missed it?)
Many thanks for your wonderful blog -- I have learned so much from you.
Many thanks for the kind comment, so happy you enjoy my blog! The new version of the Picotin 22 insert will be available in a couple of weeks. The current version works beautifully with a Pico though :)
DeleteIs there an insert for a Kelly 32?
ReplyDeleteYes there is: http://maitaicollection.com/collections/bag-inserts/products/insert-organizer-for-kelly-32?variant=3646327937
DeleteHello
ReplyDeleteIs there an insert for Goyard St. Louis GM?
Thank you.
Hello Jennifer, I am truly sorry, but the currently largest insert I have (Birkin 35) is quite a bit too small for the St Louis GM. Wishing you the best of luck!
