Style challenge - shoes

Thanks to dearest sammie, a fab and fun discussion on how to wear bright colored shoes ensued in the comment section of the previous post. Many fantastic suggestions were made on how to tie the look together by adding touches of green, whether by items of clothing, bracelets, scarves or necklaces. Thanks so much everyone for participating, and to sammie for the fun challenge!

There are some beautiful green pieces in the shops right now, but as I don't own any (yet), I borrowed some from Hermès and Gerard Darel for the style sheets below.

  1. Love this post with so many beautiful options, it was very hard to choose. I've said this before, I wish you could be my personal stylist!

Can't wait to see which option was the favorite!

  2. nautrally I love it all, and I really want that flamingo party scarf because it has flowers I can actually grow around here. I love green, so cheering during life's difficult times. Someone told me that it's always the last colour to sell because a lot of people are afraid to wear it.

    Love the blog as always.x

  3. Well, my friend, you are back with a bang! You have wrapped it up so beautifully for Sammie and her green shoe challenge! We have all had fun popping in with our ideas, but leave it to you to bring it home! Congrats to Sammie for this fun challenge!
My vote was on look #6 as I fell head over heels for all of those GD pieces! Dang... Actually hard to single out just one, as I liked # 1,# 8 and all in between ;-))
I do not own anything in green either! Now with your finishing touches to the green shoe challenge I may have to add a touch of this refreshing Spring color, too.
Oh, and I like what you have styled for our jailhouse frock! Orange is the new black as they say!
So much fun playing paper dolls here with you;-)
Hope you are refreshed and rejuvenated!
Happy Spring to you and all in Le Salon!

    1. Happy Spring to you, darling Trudye! I am very tempted by green too, it feels so fresh, and perfect to chase the last traces of winter away. Only we'd have to find different shoes, the Infinity sandals seems to have sold out in green. Hope GD will become available in the States one day soon. I feel slightly guilty for showing the pieces here, when only EU readers can buy them! Spring mwahs to you, and have a most wonderful and happy Sunday xx

    2. Trudye, I'm somewhat consoled to read that you're not a "green person" either. I just can't pull it off, but I am turning a bit green with envy after studying all the lovely style sheets. The color just doesn't work for me, though. I think the last time I had something green was in the 3rd grade - a dark green velvet dress with a full skirt and a lace collar. I have fond memories of that dress, as it had a proper princess aura to it. And, of course, I was too young to realize that the color and I weren't really compatible. All I was concerned with was how well that skirt twirled!

I have to go back and study the "Vogue pages" before submitting my vote, but where in heck is our jailhouse frock? How did I miss that? But, since Fifi seems to have calmed down a bit, maybe we won't be carted off to the Big House any time soon.

      Big hug,
      Jerrine

    3. Me thinks, Jerrine, that it must be that orange one...since orange is the new black!
Just guessing here as MT said she would be posting one! Either way, I am not keen for prison garb in any fashion! So my vote would be to bail or break our Fifi out if need be!
Oh, I bet you were a cutie in that little dress...love how those memories stick for life!
No, I cannot wear the bright green, but olive green is one of my best colors. Probably because my hazel eyes tend to have a lot of green in them!
Like you, I love that color of money in my wallet or of the original Am Ex!
This was such a fun challenge Sammie me up with! Who knew those green shoes would lead to such creative inspiration!

      Big hugs,
      T xx

    4. Well, Trudye, regardless, I don't think we're going to need the orange jump suits right away as long as Fifi continues to behave herself and keeps the amplifier on her guitar turned down. If the pug isn't complaining; most likely the neighbors aren't either.

Most of my early girlhood memories revolve around full-skirted party dresses and the twirl factor. They had to have lots of petticoats, too! I wonder if little girls still wear those dresses, or is it terribly déclassé? Have little girls been liberated from their sexist petticoats? I truly hope not. Twirling and sashaying are just too much fun.

I wish I could wear olive green, as I think it's such a chic color. But .. . . I can't, so I will leave it to you with the hazel eyes.

And, yes, I agree. Sammie's green shoe challenge has been much fun, and I hope that we'll all convene to do it again soon.

      Happy Tuesday,
      Jerrine

    5. Me popping by again, J! I can so relate to those childhood memories of the petticoats and swirling skirts! I can recall many a new Easter ️outfit with the full skirts, hats, shoes and little purses! I had the cutest little wicker purse shaped like an umbrella that I thought was so cool! Yes, even then it was all sbout the accessories;-))
      Happy bloomin' Tuesday,
      T

    6. Hello, beauteous ones! Dearest Trudye, you are so sweet, always prepared to break me out of the Big House. I also am not big on green - I have a couple of things in that color but it's amazing how often I wear gray tones. Gray and black, maybe that's why #6 resonates. Dear Jerrine, your description of childhood dresses is wonderful and reminds me of the full-skirted outfits which my mother used to sew up for us girls. I actually owned a poodle skirt with an appliqued poodle, courtesy of Mom. And FYI, my tiny amplifier plugs into the bass guitar and then into headphones, so no one is disturbed by my atonal plunkings.
      Happy Aloha Tuesday yourself,
      Fifi

    7. Giggling, Trudye, as I so remember those little wicker, umbrella shaped Easter purses. I SO wanted one, but I think my mother was afraid that I'd put my brother's eye out with the pointed end of it, and I might have, as he always raided my Easter basket and chomped the ears off the chocolate bunnies. Demon child!

Yes, it was all about the accessories even way back then, and of course, they all had to match perfectly! I remember I was a veritable "vision in pink" one Easter Sunday. Ugh, it kind of makes me shudder to think of it now.

Wouldn't you have loved to have seen Fifi in her poodle skirt? Bet she looked adorable. And, I'm relieved to hear that the neighbors are spared those "plunkings." But, Fifi, you can plunk for me any time!

Happy half way through the week to you both and all the Swans,
      Jerrine

  8. Thanks to Sammie for the challenge and dearest MaiTai for your so fresh, "printanières" and chic stylesheets You remembered me I should add more green in my wardrobe. I was in London for the past two weeks and it was funny to see much more green accessories in the streets than in France, probably after reading your fun exchanges ladies, I paid more attention to esmerald, green forest, lime, turquoise, bleu canard. I’m planning to go back for the Chelsea Flower Show I’ll definitely bring MT’ style there, maybe with a kind of N°5.

    2. I've heard that the Chelsea Flower Show is not to be missed, Catherine. I'm envious, and I imagine that it's a breath of fresh air for Londoners after a bleak, grey winter.

I'm going to be in London in November for a few days, and I doubt there will be many flowers blooming then. But, there will be other enticements, I'm sure:-)!

      Enjoy,

    3. Dear Jerrine,
Are you sure you don’t prefer to fly to London in May instead of November ? We could have a tasty tea time together ! ! I confirm, the show is not to be missed if you are like me an english gardens’ lover. Silky hugs,

    4. Catherine, how I'd love to jump over in May and have a lovely tea with you and visit that flower show. I love English gardens even though I have a black thumb extraordinaire. I can cook anything but can't grow a thing. I've thrown in the trowel!

But, I'm afraid I'm chained to my desk until November. Enjoy Chelsea for me, okay.

I have found if I take more than ???(I forgot to time it) a certain amount of time, it might be that my browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc) will somehow refresh, and it cause the comment to be erased.

also, I love your choice #8. It is my sentimental favorite bcuz it has a MaiTaiCollection piece, and it's so sophisticated...you know, like MaiTai, "with a whisper" aesthetic.

I usually wear my orange and yellow shoes (mocassins) with a white shirt and jeans and a scarf and/or a bracelet in the same orange. Re the pink sandals, I use them with a dress that has pink in it, or with a white shirt/ top or t-shirt, jeans, a scarf with pink or a small pink handbag.

  17. Dearest MaiTai,

Your inspirations from nature and life photos are as artistic and creative as your ensembles. I couldn't just vote by number; had to name each vignette its own special name, in honor of the artist who selected them--that is your very own "trait de génie!"

Beauty surrounds us all; we just have to know where to look. For me, it's the MaiTai Picturebook + MaiTaiCollection.

    Here goes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. #1: Oleander.

    Emerald & Magenta.
    Floral gem.

What I love about this vignette is the lush green + just a hint/just enough of tropical fuschia. It's the MaiTai touch of everything just right.

    ReplyDelete
  19. #2: Dendrobium.

    Emerald & Indigo.
    Crisp and cool.

What I love about this vignette is the crisp cool emerald on white, grounded by indigo (and love the Prussian Blue Bolide!!!). Also, your selection of Bolduc au Carre is brilliant, as the strong horizontal/vertical lines mimic the strong horizontal bands of the sandals. Brilliant versatile ensemble.

    ReplyDelete
  20. #3: Vosges.

    Malachite & Marine.
    Boho chic in the Marais.

Of all the "looks" you've shared w/ us, this, IMO, brings forth a certain Boho chic of those fabulous shoes, to a T. I love the flow-y tunic w/ its swirls on white, and those bracelets...geez, how 'bout wear 'em all for more Boho chic? MaiTai, so uber kool and on-trend. U r a genius...I hope you don't mind me repeating it, but you are a genius!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. #4: Trumpets.

    Spiced Chocolate au Lait.
    Understated warm with cool.

What I love about this vignette is the feeling of Moroccan spice and warm chai tea. The warm palette is a great counterpoint to the vibrant green; sort of tones it down, but in such a stylish warm way. And, the Coup de Fouet enamel bracelet is perfect beyond perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  22. #5: Satory.

    Marine & Ochre.
A Florentine nod to the nautical.

This palette reminds me of Florence, Italy. Maybe someone could help me out...you know, when that student has a question that they don't quite know yet...and they need some help from the instructor on what their Q really is!!!

    SoS--Jerrine!!!

I think it's the nod to the antiqued gold w/ malachine blue/green? Or, maybe it's the elegant bracelet, Balcons du Guadalquivir, ironworks of Spanish origin? And, I would not ever have thought of putting the Kraft Oatie w/ this outfit, but MaiTai, of course, your i sees much more than most. Truly subtle, elegant ensemble. Rue Satory photo is so charming.

Number 5 does have an Italian feel to it, I agree. But, I'm not reading Florence as much as I am, perhaps, the Amalfi Coast or even Venice with the blue and green water tones of the scarf and the rose compass design, as well. The horn earrings remind me of details from the Doge's Palace in Venice.

Perhaps, it's the ochre tones in the shawl or the earthy shade of the Pico/Oatie that are conjuring up the fading facades of all those noble Florentine palazzo's showcased by a brilliant blue of an Italian afternoon sky?

I think color and design are all very subjective anyway and will always trigger different memory pictures for each of us. Regardless, I think you're right on that it has an Italian vibe to it, and I love it.

      Ciao bella,

    4. LOL, sammie. I bet you haven't gotten much work done so far this week, have you? No matter. Just let all the fabulous possibilities spin around in your mind, and I'm sure that you'll pull out the perfect piece(s) from that sartorial whirlwind to make those fabulous green shoes sing. And, I know that you'll definitely avoid that rrrrrrribbit look!

With MT's expert guidance and all the LeSalon swans rooting from the sidelines, we know that you'll come up with a gorgeous ensemble.

      To green and beyond,

    5. Oh Jerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,

Thank you for finding my words for me on the #5 Satory color story! I knew you'd know what I couldn't quite put into words.

I think it's the ochre/antiqued gold and that aqua green of Amalfi coast. Gaaaaa...

Oh Jerr, you are so perceptive and clever--I have not gotten a stitch of job-related work done, and ya know what? I'm enjoying every moment of it! I think I've narrowed my outfit to 3 things:

      spatula
      flood pants
      kiddie lucky charm

wooweee, have the best of best of weeks, and safe travels dear Jerr!

I do love each and every crazy piece though!

Jerrrrr, you mentioned tax returns...UGH...I am gathering docs for that dreaded task...swimming in reams of paper right now...

  23. #6: Flore.

    Emerald on Black & White.
Crisp white linens and fresh foliage.

Looking at this snapshot in time, servers in their crisp white linen, the morning air and breakfast on a fine spring day. It just feels so fresh, yet elegant, and soooooo Parisienne. There really is something to be said about simplicity, of B/W w/ a touch of color. MaiTai, if I had to select a vignette that is "you" to a T, it would be this one. So simple, elegant, refreshing, and everything just right. I love this ensemble + photo of your morning stroll in Paris.

  24. #7: Valencia.

    Mango & Malachite.
    Juicy fruits delight. Yummy.

This vignette is like sorbet w/out the calories! Your selection of Flamingo Party triangle scarf is just the right touch of brilliant color, w/out the formality/shine of H silk twill.

I could see this outfit en route to visiting Fifi in HI!!!

Of all the palettes, this one truly is the most delicious and appetizing. Every restaurant should use your style sheet to decorate their interior. They'd attract more guests and sell much more food/drink! D-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!!!

  25. #8: Irides.

    Iris & Emerald.
    An Andrew Wyeth landscape.

This vignette reminds me of the subtlety of a Wyeth landscape that goes on forever. Lavender, violet, greenery and woods. Every piece coordinates so seamlessly, yet, there is that little exclamation point of shoes + MaiTaiCollection Vert Sapin scarf ring. This is a most subtle and sophisticated ensemble, and my sentimental favorite because it contains a creation from the MaiTaiCollection. Bravo!

You really knocked it out of the park with this challenge! It was fun to be able to make a contribution here in Le Salon and read everyone's ideas. Then 'bam' our uber talented leader pulls it all together with her beautiful, elegant syle sheets!
Love your thoughtful prose and descriptions above...so very evocotive! This weekend I realized when reaching for a shawl to wear, that there is a touch o' green in many! So, while we all saved you dinero, it looks as if many of us will be looking to spend some green on some green! I know I will look to add a touch!
Yes, may all of the looks win...they already have in my book!

I've always said that you're a poet and don't know it. You have a lovely way with words. I shall bow out and make my exit, but not before casting my vote for No. 5. I love the sleek black pants and top as a base to play off all those wonderful, colorful accessory options. Or, maybe it's your reference to Florence, my second most favorite city in the world, that tipped the scales. Anyway, No 5 it is.

Can't wait to see your assembled look,

Just to set the record straight, dear Swans, I have never danced on a table. I did, however, dance on a bar once (during generally unmentionable and crazy college years). It will not be repeated. At this point, I'd probably fall off the darn bar and dislocate something.

I do like sammie's selection for our anthem, though. Next we'll have to come up with the official Salon cocktail. With enough cocktails, the singing gets louder and the dancing more spirited . . . just the way we like it!

  30. Well, sammie, dearest, you won the prize and a big one at that - a private style session with the styln' queen herself. Lucky little greenie ducky.

And, didn't she do a marvelous job, especially with no greens in her wardrobe or scarf drawers to reference? I have to admit that I am sans green, too. It's not that I don't love the color in nature or admire it on someone else, it's just that something is definitely lost in translation when I try to wear it. I end up feeling like Kermit.

I certainly like the color showing up in my wallet, though!

Congratulations on winning the style lottery, sammie. You'll have to send in your ensemble to MT , so she can include in the next collage. You started it, sweets, now you gotta finish it!

LOL (feeling like Kermit) wearing green! Ya, it's definitely not something to wear head to toe, w/out going Rrrrrrrrrrr-ibbit!

As for that Florentine wonder of a style sheet, it was my next choice bcuz I'm w/ you--LOVE that deep marine blue (almost black, but just better) with antiqued gold and that bright emerald green. That 2 pc top/pant outfit will work w/ ANY scarf, ANY accessory and ANY complexion, it's so versatile. Actually, you just convinced me to vote for #5 "Satory"...hmm...I'm in a conundrum again...

It will take me a little time to assemble the parts that can best match just one of MaiTai's style sheets, OMG, my mind's been a spinnin' like crazy since our Leader posted so many fabulous ideas on how to style kooky green shoes, but I'd be glad to do, for my sistas of LeSalon, just for fun (and hopefully, not too many laughs, as I confess, I'm far far from the elegance/beauty/ease of our MaiTai)

Have a wonderfully good week Jerrrrrr, and big mwahs of thanks for your very gracious thoughts--your erudite mind and quick pen are a joy to read, truly.

    1. You're so right, Katja. Who needs silly old Anna Wintour when we have the fabulous MT?

Those fashion magazines can be fun if you're into flights of fantasy (and tons of glossy advertising), but can we really relate to the clothes shown? Could we wear them out on the streets and not get laughed off said streets? Could we wear them well if we're not at least 6' tall and a size -0? I know that I couldn't, and I would guess that I'm not in the minority.

That's why I love seeing a lovely "real" woman wearing relatable, chic, comfortable ensembles with great accessories and looking like a million bucks.

Needless to say, I've cancelled my subscriptions but will definitely keep my "subscription" here current.

forget 'dem 'zines. (and Tru, ITA--I detest 'zines telling us what to wear at what event/age/planet/etc. I believe that each person develops her/his own notion of what works, and what doesn't work. We just need some coaching to listen to that little voice.)

    5. Yes! There are many, many, reasons I love MaiTai’s gorgeous blog, but one of the central ones has always been its clear-eyed acknowledgment that clothes must work with the lives we actually live. Her genius, of course, is in building inventive, chic, and charming ensembles on that rock-solid foundation. Week after week, she cheerfully proves that hers is no fantasy wardrobe. Although her beauty may make rising to the challenge a little easier, she has the grit and grace to show the components “in action” – whether photographed at home, or out and about, MaiTai’s outfits demonstrably work in the real world. (Many style blogs, admirable though they may be, simply create a collage of theoretically compatible appealing elements. Does X really complement Y? Who the **** knows?) And I am always bowled over by MaiTai’s generosity and specificity in helping the assembled flock of swans to recreate the looks – whether it’s providing sources, identifying alternatives, or spelling out specific techniques. (Sometimes it’s like having a personal stylist, but sometimes it’s more like having a guardian angel!)
All that being said, the only flaw in this week’s bonanza of beauty from our Swan Queen is that we do not have modelling shots of these 8-plus fabulous ensembles. Too much to ask of our dear MaiTai? OF COURSE it is, ladies – as you know, she deserves a chance to catch her breath: we’ve been running her [what on anyone else would be] ragged.
So, Swans (Sistas, Inmates, Corps de Ballet), is anyone up for a challenge to US?
Can we, with an eye toward a coming “MaiTai Collection in Action,” attempt to realize/embody/demonstrate some of the looks shown in these style sheets? (Sammie, you’re going to need to do a Traveling Pants with those green sandals.) What I’m envisioning is a concerted effort to add photos that are “Inspired By” the looks in these wonderful style sheets. (Perhaps there could be a “Magic 8” subsection of the collage.) Several of the lucky gals here have some of the actual components of these looks (I’m looking at you, everyone who bought that green cardigan), but of course one of the many delights of MaiTai’s approach to style is that the “look” is usually quite attainable even if one cannot hop the next plane to Paris to pick up the featured navy trousers at Gerard Darel. I could shop my closet and come up with a pretty good approximation of Stylesheet #1 (“Oleander,” to use one of Sammie’s brilliant labels). Scarf tying methods aren’t generally spelled out in the stylesheets, so one can always use a MaiTai scarf ring to fulfill that technicality for inclusion in the “MaiTai Collection” spread – and I see room for horn bracelets, waterfall necklaces, and organized bags!
      Who’s in?
      Holding my breath,
      Azalie

    6. Yes, Trudye, sammie and Katja, I remember stalking the stores, just waiting for those incredible September issues of Vogue and Bazaar to hit the stands - the ones that were the size of catalogs and could be used as door stops in a pinch. They were magical, and I would study them for hours, even the ads. What happened to them? The last one I bought a couple of years ago, I spent about ten minutes flipping through and threw it aside - a total waste of time and money . . . and probably a whole tree.

But, maybe we're the ones who have changed. We've grown up and aren't willing to "drink the fashion Kool-Aid" any longer. I like to think that it's the later.

We do have to work on getting GD over to our part of the world, though. He's missing a HUGE opportunity. He's already got a built-in customer base just salivating to get their hands on the MT selections. Come on, GD, get your marketing department off their collective butts and get with the plan.

      Azalie, Tru, Lea, Jerr, Kat,

Az, u nailed it so beautifully. Just no other words to add, except: bravo! I totally agree, and what you said is what makes MaiTai PictureBook the treasure trove--feast for the i's and soul. Add practical to that, and it is the Real Deal.

      I LOVE your idea!!!

"inspired by MaiTai Style Sheet ___?___" Ah, but we must give each style sheet is place of honor; not merely a numeral? For that, I would be glad to contribute some suggestions for each and every wonderful, genius style sheet. They are so special, I feel each is deserving of a special name, perhaps associated w/ MaiTai's inspiration photo from life/nature.

Well, I could gush on for paragraphs on end, but, a picture is worth a thousand million words, and all one has to do is look and observe.

      I LOVE YOUR IDEA!!!!

oh, and 1 word of caution...I think the amount of time/work to assemble a collage is alot. Editing, cropping, layout, making sure everyone looks their best, etc. So, anything any I can do to help that process, please let me know.

      must go!!!

I still lack one essential item for any of those style sheets - the gorgeous green sandals!!!!!!! No other green ones in my closet, either.....
On quite another note and totally off the topic - let's raise our glasses also in mourning and compassion for those families who lost their loved ones and be thankful that this pilot at least chose an unpopulated area to bring the plane down...No idea how close you are to all this, dear MaiTai - as a German, it feels awful...
That said, à la santé !

    15. Yes, my dear Trudye, bringing GD to the States has to be our noble mission, our cause célèbre. I think all we have to do is find the address for the company's headquarters and start a flurry of letters headed their way.

We'll point them in the direction of MT's blog just so they can see her influence in action (and offer her a free GD wardrobe for life and make her the spokeswoman for the brand.)

      I'm willing if you are!

    16. How right you are, Katja. We need to take a moment to honor the 150 people, who died innocently and tragically for reasons we may never fully understand. I can't imagine the shock and grief their loved ones are experiencing at this point, including the parents and family of the co-pilot who took the jet down.

To the loved ones of the 150 souls lost on the Germanwings flight over the Alps, your grief is ours.

Azalie, what a lovely comment! Funny thing is that when I started the blog, I sometimes wondered how to sustain the posts with the same basic wardrobe pieces.. but it works for me in real life, and it makes me so happy to know that it speaks to others too <3

  37. Darling Lea and sammie,
Yay! We’re up to at least a folie a trois here, and I’m thrilled: thank you so much for your kind words and your support of the idea of an “Inspired By” effort. And sammie, you are so perceptive and generous in offering to help with the technical aspects. As for supplementary labels for the numeric stylesheets, I bet the sistas are pretty close to unanimous in believing that you have supplied the perfect ones already – punchy, evocative, and memorable. (They’re yours to tweak, of course, and I’d gladly follow wherever you take them!)
Can we try for some courageous swan dives into attempts at outfits based on Stylesheets 1-8? (Of course, this in no way excludes anyone or implies that anything is “taken” – the more the merrier, unless and until our tech whizzes say enuff is enuff. I’m just hoping we can get at least one effort for each.) Switching waterfowl here, the first penguins off the iceberg:
    Stylesheet #1 (“Oleander”):

    Stylesheet #8 (“Irides”):

    1. yo Azalie!

Just a quick hello, and oh, I must have read-into your original post...I think I misunderstood; sorry.

I thought you were suggesting using all of MaiTai's style sheets as basis for 'inspiration'...but I see now, it's staring w/ the greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen style sheets!

      I'm all in!

Just a couple of comments, after thinking about this little delightful project you're dreaming up...

      (a) Do you think the outfits would be even BETTER and so much more rewarding for our wonderful Leader, MaiTai, if we included in each outfit, an accessory from the MaiTaiCollection? I liken her creations as sort of 'brain children' that have been lovingly dreamed up, drawn up, worked on, re-worked, refined and reiterated, until they were the vision MaiTai imagined. Kind of like watching your children grow up, stand on their own 2 feet, and go out to the world and make something of themselves? So, wouldn't it be that much sweeter to showcase her creations in our style sheet inspirations? I would think Yes!

      (b) How could we make this project turn-key for MaiTai, i.e., little to no time required for her? I'm not sure how to do that at the moment...but if/when I think of how we can help/make the process seamless, I will be here tootin that horn!

(my off-the-cuff, not-thought-out notion at the moment is, maybe we do a little of our own "pre-editing" before submitting to MaiTai, or something along those lines. Provide her w/ well thought-out ensembles, based on her style sheets, photo'd in natural light if possible, and whenever possible, including a piece from the MTC, as homage to our wonderful Leader. What say y'all?)

must go for now, but hope to be back by Saturday...

      xoxo
      sammie

P.S. I'd gladly try to emulate Style Sheet #6 "Flore", and possibly #3 "Vosges". I sure love the tried/true B/W w/ touch of color (and that ensemble is the "just add 1 piece" recipe for me), and I adore the Boho vibe of "Vosges," which sort of brings out a certain character of the sandals.

btw, just an explanation of the nomenclature...

I tried to stick to a concept from MT's inspirational photo.

Oleander for the lush green/fuschia. That was a no-brainer. Just all waiting for the words to reach. You can see the rest, except for Vosges and Flore.

"Vosges" was for Place de Vosges, which I believe the inspirational photo was taken. And, I believe, it is in the Marais District, and the Boho hippie vibe, well, I believe it has never departed from that area. (see MaiTai's genius, nuance, sophistication in selecting that photo? Sheer genius, I tell ya!)

"Flore" was for Cafe de Flore, even though the photo might have been at the Cafe Des Magots...I just thought Flore was so much more evocative of the crisp white linen against matte stark black, framed by that wonderful foliage of the shrubs decorating the cafe.

      Delete
    2. Oh, sammie, absolutely! I think we really are on the same wavelength. You’re right – I was suggesting that we get the project off the ground by targeting the 8 stylesheet looks in this current bonanza of a post. In the future, who knows? The sistas are such an enthusiastic and inventive crew (and there is such an awe-inspiring inventory of existing stylesheets), that there is enormous scope for sharing additional “inspired-by” looks.

Re “(a)” (including MT items in “inspired-by” ensembles) – yup, that’s what I had in mind too. I was probably being kind of opaque, but that’s what I meant when I suggested playing by the “MaiTai Collection in Action” rules when styling one’s outfit, and including – for example – a MaiTai scarf ring, bracelet, or necklace.

And “(b)” (seeking out ways to minimize work for MT with the photo-prep aspects of this project): Brilliant! This would be great. My own tech/design skills are feeble, but I’m motivated and teachable. And that map of Mme MaiTai’s worldwide fan base suggests that there must be at least a few swans out there who could help steer me in the right direction and with whom you could trade how-to ideas.

Thanks, too, for giving more background on the thinking behind your delightful labels for the individual Stylesheets. (Good call on #6, your “Flore.” I never took a marketing class, but I’m gonna go with my gut here and say it would have been harder to sell the “Magots” look.)

And even further thanks for moving this evolving proposition along while you wrestle with tax season. I’m hereby ruling that those flood pants are TOTALLY DEDUCTIBLE.

Jerrine, Katja, and lovely Lea – many thanks to you, too, for your insights and esprit de corps!

Xoxoxo and a wonderful weekend to all, Azalie

    3. Hi,
went through my wardrobe - it has been an interesting journey.
I would accept the proposal, I could recreate #8, I think.
The only trouble is that I do not have green shoes and do not know where to find them in my city (never bought the shoes through Internet - too risky in terms of size for me.)
Spent the afternoon today searching for the green shoes today. :((
But I do have a green bag - is it acceptable until I locate the shoes which are central here???
OMG, I never ever published any of my photos on Internet and this is a tough challenge for me...:)))
I agree with the below Sammie's comments on editing and MT's items included in the outfit.

Just thought to post links to some alternate green sandals that might be of interest.

These are the suggestion of color, and reasonable enough (under 100USD) for a little experiment with kooky green sandals.

  41. P.S. Dear Le Salon Swans,

Would love to know your feedback on my post (above), about including a piece from MTC in each of our looks, as homage to our wonderful generous leader. I view her artwork and designs as the brain children, lovingly created/developed/worked/refined/reiterated into what they are now, and I imagine it must be so rewarding for her to see her designs, 'taking flight', as children who go out into the world and make something of themselves.

Also, I'm still intrigued by Manuela's yellow and orange and pink shooooooooos!!!

Can we start another Collage featuring our most beloved, yet kooky, outrageously whacky colored accessory, styled using a MT Style Sheet, or one of her lovely postcards, or anything on her blog?

I mean, this could just be too too too much fun?!?

Also, I would be glad to volunteer to do some pre-editing/layout of our pics, so as to reduce MaiTai's workload...cuz...I think this is going exponential!!!!

much love, and would welcome your thoughts/better ideas!

Definitely, if at all possible, include a MaiTai Collection item in your ensemble – it is part of the fun, and one tiny way we can pay tribute. And the request/suggestion to include an MT Collection item has been part of the “challenge” right from the very beginning!

  43. Hi again, sammie!

Your great ideas and generosity just keep on coming (MaiTai inspired? Natural gift?)!

Thanks so much for the updated list and pre-editing offer!

Very helpful to have the green sandal links THANK YOU. We WILL solve this problem of including green sandals/surrogates in the photos, Sistas! (Even though I guess we’re not going to be able to do it a la my preferred fantasy: convening for our fashion shoot at the Gerard Darel boutique in Paris. While we’re there, of course, GD kindly lets us have anything we want because they are so thrilled with the idea of our opening an American branch of their enterprise. And you Sammie, let us each in turn borrow the iconic ur-sandals – which fit perfectly and remain pristine throughout the process.)

Sigh, there’s always Photoshop. But I bet we can do better! And those links are a great start!

  44. PS, again about the “Inspired-By” challenge –

sammie, in my view, OF COURSE you can take on #2 (Dendrobium) as well. (Especially in light of your kind editing and layout offer!) Personally, I’m hoping to see at LEAST one name associated with each of those 8 genius stylesheets.

Your doing #2/Dendrobium, would not, as I see it, preclude someone else from doing it too, if that set of images spoke to her heart and her wardrobe! It wouldn’t be “hogging” at all. Your doing a version of #2/Dendrobium would just be another example of your wonderful generosity, inventiveness, talent for Stepping Up!

  49. Dearest Azalie, Kendal, Lea, future GreenStyleSheet LeSalon Swans---

Just a quick question about black and white pants. The style sheet I selected has both.

Would you like me to do both black and white for the style sheet #6, Flore?

Or, should I just make the judgement call and show my 1 fav ensemble from that style sheet?

    Inquiring shoes want to know!!!

    thx!

    1. Ooooh, sammie -- decisions, decisions. If you like both looks, I think you'd help us (the way MaiTai often does) by showing us how changing one variable can bring out wonderful new aspects of the same basic look. But if you have a strong preference for that fav, that's the one you should put up in lights! (For #1, Oleander, I went for only one of the two possible looks.) Either way you go, it will be fabulous!

So excited about how this all is coming together --

      xoxoxo, Azalie

    2. Hi sammie, I vote for both please! I did two for mine also, however on second look, I'm going to redo one of mine tomorrow. It was an interesting lesson for me: seeing an outfit in a photo gives such an impartial view versus just looking at the outfit in the mirror. I'm betting that both of your versions are terrific and look forward to seeing them!

    3. hola Azalie and Kendall!!!

Thx for your input/replies--OK, I'll probably do both...but I don't want to HOG up the bandwidth w/ my experiments! Maybe we do the machinations among ourselves, before submitting to MaiTai? That way, if we need to adjust some detail here/there, we won't be sending our wonderful patient MaiTai a dozen updates w/ notes!!! (oh, and Kendall, I'm not referring to your update; that's different simply bcuz your style sheet has many many variations that simply cannot be covered in just a 2 ensembles.)

LeSalonSwans, this is getting really fun, and even more interesting--we're adding another layer to this project...the challenge of bringing our ensembles to MaiTai standards of refinement and sophistication.

oh, it may take the universe and Milky Way to do that, but I'm all in trying and enjoying every minute of the process in sharing w/ y'all!

      sing it, swing it sistas!!!

  50. Hey, Trudye, Jerrine, and GSL--

When you're playing dress up, ladies, remember that GSL voted for #4, "Trumpets," as his favorite from last week's line up! GSL, use your persuasive skills to encourage your admirers to pull #4-related items out of that steamer trunk. We still need a model for #4! (Happy playtime, regardless!)

    Fingers crossed,

    Azalie

  51. Oh, I'd love to participate and help out, but I wasn't exaggerating when I said that there is no green in my closet . . . or the steamer trunk, which is now on its way to Trudye's house.

I think I own three green items, as follows: Old pair of Manolo sandals in emerald green alligator, a black onyx and peridot ring, and lol, a bottle of Hermès bath/shower gel. That's it. I don't think there's much I can do to help.

    Maybe next time?

Jerr...u really really really must be in this project w/ those shoes.

      Gaaaaaaa....

(oh, and Azalie, Kendall, Lea, Swans--pls know that I am more than happy to share the style sheets I have selected, in fact, I would welcome your company, as my wardrobe is pretty limited to black/white and variations on those two non-colors/all-colors.

Seriously Jerrine, let's think of a way to include your fabulous shoes in this collage. I love that classic criss cross slide Manolo used to do in Alligator. I think it had a kitten heel, and it fit like a dream. Talk about a shoe designer who knows what they are doing--those straps were so strategically placed, it hid all the problem foot areas most women have.

ok Jerrr, counting on seeing you in Manolos in the Greeeeen Collage!

That's plllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllleenty to include in the collage. You gotta remember my 3:
flood pants, spatula, kiddie bracelet. Honest, those are mine.

Your green treasures sound so interesting; I hope you will join us!!!

    5. Oh, Jerrine, do join the party! Those typing fingers may be saying "No, no," but those dancing toes -- potentially shod in sandals we ALL want to see -- are saying "Yes! Yes!"

      Really truly!

    7. And sammie, yes, I'm happy to share/collaborate -- how do we do it? What did you have in mind? (I'm enchanted, btw, that we probably typed "thud" in tandem when we got Jerrine's green alligator sandal bulletin -- great and/or green-deranged minds think alike!)

    8. Hey Azalie,

Sorry I didn't see your comment earlier...

About how we could collaborate/pre-screen our "test drives" before submitting to MaiTai, how about email?

I emailed you last week; pls let me know if you received it or not. I can re-send.

      and LOL! great (green) minds think/react alike (t h u d) !

Can't wait to see Jerrine's Manolos too!

I'm going to respond to your comment below about "the list" too....

      more in a minute...

  52. Oh, Lord, I shouldn't have mentioned those out-of-style emerald gators, I guess. I actually haven't worn them in years, but I just can't bear to consign them to the Goodwill bag.

When I wore them, Azalie, I paired them with, what else, black. But, as I had nothing else in green, they were kind of, shall we say, lost in translation. They were lonesome!

Just to make the Swans happy (and to quiet sammie down a bit before she has a stroke), I'll see what I can come up with and will send a photo off to our beloved leader. First I have to find the old things. I can barely remember what they look like, though. No kitten heel, though, sammie. I think they have more of a 2" or less square heel. I wasn't too good with those kittens. But, they're definitely green.

Will dig in closet tonight. At least I know where the H. bath gel is!

    Love to you green maniacs,
    Jerrine

    1. Fantastic Jerrrrrrrine!!!

I thank you a zillion times for joining, and for preventing me from having a stroke (of greeeeeen)!

Gaaaaa...I can hardly wait to see your shooos + styling, which I know will be impeccable.

And, green shooz...I find they are kinda picky about who they want to be paired with. So far, I still find that white/off-white, black and navy seem to let greenie be the star of the show.

      Happy discovering tonight Jerrrrrrr,

      xoxo

  54. Hi All,
Yes, please Jerrine do find those Manolos! I can see a lovely still life now, bath gel, spa robe and the sandals??... and thanks Sammie for the idea of a pre-share and the okay for multiples. Eeek! No way do my ensembles approach beautiful MaiTai's but I do feel happy for having tried! This has been a great learning experience for me...I've long admired you swans who contribute to the collages, but now I'm even more impressed with the selfie photo skills and ensembles on display! I'm excited to see the preview of outfits...

  55. Hi there Greenies, and especially Jerrine!

Shall I update the list? I'm prepared, for example, to say that anything with a dark top / dark trousers at the core is "Satory" (or maybe "Satori," to go all Zen-geeky here: "seeing into one's true nature" -- cuz what's a truer insight than "I look fantastic in black"???). (And Kendal, I love that still-life suggestion: bring on the spa robe!)

    xoxo, Azalie

  56. Ooooh, love "Satori" and true insight...I think it's fair to say dark monochrome outfits are a natural for #5! What do you think of sharing our ideas on Google Drive? If you don't have a Gmail account, you can create one, upload what we have and then invite us to join and comment. Ms. MaiTai may have to assist with email address sharing if that is okay with everyone. I'm happy to help in anyway I can, too.
    Best,
    Kendal
