Capsule wardrobe #81 - Ice skating

In the Christmas holidays, ice skating is one of our traditional outings. In my childhood, we went skating on frozen lakes, but there is no such thing in the South of France... so we'll go to an ice rink instead.

Dressing in warm layers is essential, so I've added a couple of extra layers under the hooded top. Another lifesaver is to choose skates half a shoe size bigger than usual, which allows you to wear thick and warm skiing socks to keep your feet cosy.

Capsule wardrobe #80 - learning new tricks

A few weeks ago I went to an Hermès scarf tying event and learnt a fabulous new detail for tying a scarf into a shrug

The basic idea has been around for some time, and I always liked the striking back view.. it showcases a scarf's design like no other knot can..

yet I hardly ever wore a scarf this way, as the front (where the scarf ends are knotted together) appears too laboured

The secret I learned is to hide the knots in the inside,
which makes all the difference.. resulting in a simple and elegant front view

Shoes: black loafers

Cheap and chic - C'est la fête, part one

My 10 EUR market find sweater is still holding up fabulously, and today I teamed it up with my current favourite scarf, the 'C'est la fête' 70 carré. To make up for last week's lack of posts, there will be a couple of variations coming over the next few days.

Reader's contributions - SS2013 scarf preview

As many of you may know already, the Hermès theme for 2013 is sports/athletic competitions.

'Les Jeux d'Hermès' is one of the new 90 carré designs of the SS2013 collection, of which a limited number and colours have been pre-released for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Caroline is one of the lucky few who already own this scarf, and so generously sent me her pictures to share with you.

More insight into the design, by Caroline:

The design called 'Jeux de Hermes' and is based on the traditional symbols of the Olympic Games....You can see the medals, laurel wreath, olympic rings and running track are represented in typical Hermes style.

I was lucky enough to spend time in London this summer for the 2012 Olympic Games. This scarf was on display, although sold out, in Harrods. The staff explained that is was a scarf from SS2013 but Hermes had agreed to release a few in various colours for London to coincide with the games.
Thanks to their help I was able to get the last scarf from the Sloane Street store and I absolutely love it. It is neither my normal choice of pattern or colour but somehow it works and I've had many compliments.

It's been a treat to wear something so exclusive for the past few months before it becomes available to everyone.

Even though there is no mention on the scarf itself of London 2012 I know it's a souvenir of a wonderful exciting time at the Olympic Games.

If you think it may also be of interest to your blog readers then feel free to share.

I do enjoy reading your blog by the way, keep up the good work!
