For Autumn/Winter'09 Hermès has brought out a new type of scarf - the Carré Surteint, featuring the Brides de Gala design. It is printed the traditional way first and then gets dip dyed and distressed. The effect is a recycled look with a matte finish and peach like softness. The usual care tag is replaced by a larger cotton one, which comes in different colors to match the CWs of the scarf. I look forward to seeing all the different colors this scarf comes in! My SA very sweetly cut off a bit of the ribbon the care tags are made off and attached it as a friendship bracelet to my wrist. A lovely reminder of the color I liked best so far.

Little Black Suit & Gavroche in flower knot
Drawing my inspiration from the starter of melon and ham (journey of melons) we had a few days ago, I knotted my Ex-libris Gavroche for today's LBS episode in the flower knot ;-)

Lavender harvest
This was last summer's lavender harvest. It is pretty hard work, as you have to cut them right down, for them to grow beautifully back the next year. I had a friend over, who loves lavender and so it was good fun despite. We had 30 bushes to cut, some of them were enormous.
The task ahead:

and many more in the back garden...

It was a hot and sunny day, so I decided to wear a straw hat. The Twilly added instant chic and my head stayed cool.

My preferred way to scent the house is to throw a freshly cut bunch into a basket and leave in a room, then move it on to another!

After all this hard work, we deserved a little break! I made Apricot Pie and we had some pink wine...seeing this now, all the pain in the back and hands is forgotten, I loooong for this year's harvest.

The brown rings you see on the table are made from wine cuttings. They are not difficult to make and can be used as a base for making all kinds of wreaths, lavender, rosemary, thyme..you name it!
And finally lavender wreaths!! I love to hang them on the wall in my dressing room, in the hall or prop them on the mantelpiece of the fireplace...

It was such a lovely day and making something out of nothing gives such a happy, satisfied feeling. Looking forward to the next harvest!

The journey of melons
One of my favorite early summer joys is fresh melons.. ripened by the sun and full of sweetness, aroma, and flavor.

Fields can be found everywhere...

The ripe ones get picked every morning...

and delivered straight away to the vegetable stalls.

Choosing the right one is great fun and fresh melon for breakfast is a wonderful way to start the day. Melon and Parma ham is one of my favorite starters on warm summer evenings, the fresh sweetness and aroma of the fruit goes perfectly with the mild and savory flavor of the ham, which I prefer wafer-thin and loosely placed on top of the sliced melon. A wonderful entrée dish to share with a group of friends over some iced rosé.

Jeans and jersey shirt
I like wearing blue and brown together and felt in a casual mood, so today wearing jeans and a navy jersey shirt, with some dark brown leather and horn accessories. For a summery feel, I added a few touches of gold color by turning the horn pendant so that the gold foil side showed, choosing a belt with a brass buckle and a leather bracelet with a gold plated buckle.

70 Cotton Carré
Todays LBS episode features a 70 Cotton Carré, a great and lightweight scarf for spring/summer. Because of its graphic pattern and contrasting CW it's ideal for the Butterfly knot, which gives it a crisp yet feminine look. For a how-to click here

Jeans & white T-shirt
Today's theme is 'Jeans & white T-shirt', one of the all time classic 'uniforms'. Even though I personally prefer white jeans paired with a black T-shirt, this was a fun challenge. To soften the look, I decided to wear a mousselline scarf. Having tried a GM and a PM, I ended up wearing the smaller size.
