Capsule wardrobe #75 - Goodbye Autumn

In the area we live, Plane and Mulberry trees cling on forever to their foliage, and if it wasn't for the calendar, it would be hard to believe that December and Christmas are just around the corner.

I'm glad to have already made the Christmas pudding and prepared DS' Advent calender, but as for shopping, I am still very much behind. Looking forward to the weekend though, and the start of decorating the house and outside.

Today I've been wearing the same outfit as a couple of weeks ago in Paris, when meeting with the girls
photo credit: my dear friend J.

Capsule pieces: black jeans and turtleneck sweater
Accessories: Hermès 'Ex-Libris' cashmere shawl, 'Kelly Dog' bracelet and Birkin in black
Scarf tying method: Basic bias fold
Shoes: black Jumping boots

The leaves of the chestnut tree are always the first to go.. goodbye autumn!

The Jardins de la fontaine in Nîmes

The 'Jardins de la Fontaine' in Nîmes is one of my favourite parks and a perfect example of the elegant landscape architecture of 18th century France.

Built in the reign of Louis XV it is also the first public garden in France.

It is a peaceful and beautiful space with a symmetrical layout, filled with fountains, balustrades, vases, and sculptures. You see fish in the pools, and on the weekends, children riding ponies and men playing boules.

The park is so much more though than a peaceful garden for reflection or a promenade. It is such an inspirational place too... its classical beauty and the abundance of urns and vases, all draped with bows and wreaths, led me to the new 'Jardin de Nîmes' cover for the scarf travel pochette, which will become available in about three weeks time. The design originates from the Boudin Archives in Nîmes, and as the existing Toile de Jouy and Bastide, it is one of the beautiful patterns printed by a family business in Provence.

Capsule wardrobe #73 - cheap and chic playtime

Whenever adding a new item to my wardrobe, I look forward to playtime... to find out how it mixes and matches with existing pieces,  and to discover how it transforms cherished staples into new looks.

Regardless whether the new item is an accessory or piece of clothing, or if it was expensive or cheap... the twisting of the capsule kaleidoscope is fun with them all. My recently bought 'cheap and chic' sweater  is no exception, and it is great fun to discover a few shades of grey...

Capsule wardrobe #72 - this week in Paris

I never get tired of admiring the clipped rows of plane trees in Paris' squares, avenues and parks. This time of year they are especially beautiful.. their gloriously coloured leaves make each tree look individual and special.

This week's trip was 'girls only' (entre copines). It was great fun and involved visits to several H locations (they are just as obsessed as I am). Miss you already, my dear J and C, and hope you have a safe journey back.

It was also wonderful to meet new people...chance encounters, because of this blog. A warm hello to Barbara and her lovely friend, and to charmant Jérémie. So nice to have met you!

Inspired by the combination of greys and browns in the garden of the Palais Royal, I teamed my new grey sweater (which I found last Sunday at the local market, for 10 EUR) with grey corduroy jeans, and chocolate 'Brides de Gala' 90 dip dye carré

Capsule pieces: grey corduroy trousers and sweater
Shoes: grey patent flats
Accessories: Hermès 'Brides de Gala' 90 dip dye carré, 'Quadrige' enamel bracelet and 32 Kelly in ebene

It has been lovely and mild since my return, but when it gets colder,  I'd replace the grey patent flats with dark brown ankle boots. For outdoors, I'd wind the scarf once around the neck before securing the ends, and add a dark brown jacket or coat.

PS. No new window displays at FSH... the Christmas windows were not installed yet (the corner window was still the same as last time), and those along the Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Rue Boissy- d'Anglas were already curtained off for the redecoration.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone xx

Paris special - Pulin bottier

Today's 'My Paris' features a fabulous place where you can have your shoes expertly repaired, altered or renewed...la maison Pulin.

Pulin is a family business established in 1946, and the knowledge of shoemaking and repair has been passed from generation to generation.

Roger Vivier is one of many fashion houses that trust Pulin with their after-sales services, and it was through RV I first came across Pulin. They did a fantastic job of re-soling my Marlène and Belle Vivier pumps.

RV generously shared the address, and when it came to renewing the soles of my Hermès Jumping boots, I took them Pulin. In previous years I had them resoled by Hermès, but H only works with leather, and after a few sliding (and near falling) incidents, I longed for a firmer grip on the pavement
and decided this time on rubber soles instead.

Pulin is located very nearby the Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré (in a little side street behind Madeleine), and so much more than just a shoe repair place. They also make made-to-measure shoes and alter your existing pairs, all done expertly by hand.

The small shop offers an array of shoe polish and brushes, laces, walking sticks, shoe trees and horns.

For my box leather boots, Monsieur recommended Saphir

As for the result, I could not be happier. Below my mocca boots when they were still new,

and here both pairs, ready for a winter full of walking, rain or shine!

The new soles, with a thickness of just 1.5 mm.

For those who are living out of town but plan a visit to Paris, you can always send your boots and shoes to Pulin a couple of weeks ahead of your stay, and then pick them up when in town. Or, if you are staying for a week, you could drop them in on a Monday, and collect them by the following Friday.

The cost of re-soling both pairs was 88 EUR.
