Double scarves, double fun - how to's

Doubling scarves is a wonderful way to add warmth, or to simply create volume or interest. As promised in my previous blog post, here are some how-to's and variations.

With 90 carrés

Fold both scarves in the basic bias. Wrap scarf #1 once around your neck, and place scarf #2 on top. Pull all four scarf ends through a smooth round ring:

Finding pairings is fun... you can match your scarves by color, pattern or design. Even unlikely candidates might go well together in the end, as the only visible part of scarf #1 is the centre, whereas scarf #2 shows both corners and almost the full bias fold.

This knot works great when you'd like to highlight a scarf's centre while hiding it's corners, or vice versa.  Below the same two scarves, but in reversed order, showing the different effects the placing of them have.

Variation: Fold both scarves in the basic bias and place around your neck, then pull their ends through a round and smooth scarf ring:

'Mythique Phoenix' and 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carrés

As above, but ends pulled through a wooden buckle in a vertical basic slide

'Carré en Carré' and 'Monsieur et Madame' 90 carrés

Double basic bias fold
Fold both scarves in the basic bias, and place one on top of the other. Slide a smooth buckle to the centre, then place the resulting scarf band around your neck (the buckle holds the scarves together, and prevents them from  sliding once they are placed around your neck)

'Mythique Phoenix' and 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carrés

Criss-cross bow knot with a 90 carré and a mousseline PM. Fold both scarves in the basic bias fold, then slide a smooth buckle up both scarf ends on one side, and proceed with the criss-cross bow knot as shown here

'Carré Kantha' 90 carré and 'Au Coeur de la Vie' PM mousseline

As above, with a 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

With 70 carrés

Fold two 70 carrés in the basic bias fold and place around your neck. Then pull all four scarf ends through a smooth round ring and push the ring up towards your neck.

'C'est la fête' and 'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carrés

As above, but with a PM mousseline instead of the second 70 carrée

'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

With a Plissé in a Twist wrap:

'Projet Carré' Plissé and 'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré

Variation: as above, but replacing the Plissé with a Mousseline PM scarf

'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

I'll be away for a few days, and look forward to catching up with you by the end of the month xx

Capsule wardrobe #148 - double scarves, double fun

In the winter months, cashmere shawls and scarf fur collars tend to get a lot of outings, but if silk scarves are worn in pairs, they can easily keep your neck warm and protected too.

'Cuirs du Désert' and 'Photo Finish' 90 carrés in the basic bias fold. CdD wound once around the neck, and both secured in a Slip knot with a smooth round ring.

Zebra Pegasus and Mythiques Phoenix, tied as above

Cosy at home

It's been a while and I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful holiday season, and had a great start into the New Year.

The run up to Christmas has been incredibly busy, and between Xmas and the New Year, I took the time to do... Nothing! It was just wonderful to put the feet up, read, listen to music and spend time with my family.

Under the Christmas tree there were a few surprises which were just perfect for these blissfully cosy days... some new cashmere socks, books, a long knit cardigan, a pyjama..

Life has become busy since then, but hope you enjoy some home comfort pictures, some with new and others with old companions.
