Capsule wardrobe # 63 - how to wear a dark scarf in a summery way? Part III

In a variaton of the previous post (how to wear a scarf with a dark background/border in a summery way), opting for the same black top as before, but this time adding a coral pair of jeans and matching lipstick for a summery touch.

Capsule pieces: black tank top and coral jeans
Shoes: black patent leather pumps
Accessories: Hermès 'Circuit 24 Faubourg' 90 Carré, clic H enamel bracelet in black and and clic clac H enamel bracelet in bleu indiens.
Scarf tying method: Pleated bow knot. Fold your scarf into rectangle and secure the ends in a criss-cross knot. Please click here for a how-to.
Scarf ring: MaiTai Collection horn shawl ring in black with sunshine

The instruction for this cute origami horse (I did not suceed 100%, but it was fun nevertheless) are no longer available on www.hermes.com. I saved them on my computer though, and if you would like a copy, please send me an email with 'Hermès origami horse' as subject, and I will mail you back a file with the how-to.

Reader's style challenge - Capsule wardrobe #62

Today's style challenge has been sent in via email by Angelique (who also submitted a wonderful and ingenious guest post on scarf weights a while ago)
Hello MaiTai,
...
I too, have the Circuit 24 in my collection in the same colours as you do.
I found the colours and the design very appealing, but sadly I have never worn it since the day I bought it.
I really do not know what to wear with it. Your capsule #58 was a first step, but please continue a bit more with this scarf.
I'm sure it will be very challenging, this is a difficult one!
...

Many thanks for sending the question, dear Angelique. It is true, because of it's dark brown background and black border the 06 CW does not have the appearance of a typical spring/summer collection scarf, and presents more of a challenge to create a summery look.

Starting off by applying one of my favorite principles, which is to produce a rapport between the scarf and rest of the wardrobe. This gives the scarf a purpose, and avoids the impression that a 'winter scarf' might have got mixed up in the wrong season.. Next, picking a wardrobe piece or accessory which has a summery feel, to make sure the overall look is in harmony with the season too.

In the capsule #58, I chose a brown belt, bag and sleeveless top (which picked up on the scarf's background color) and a white pair of jeans and turquoise bracelet (for a summery touch).

Today opting for a canvas in black, in rapport to the scarf's border color. To a certain extend, the cut of the clothes (3/4 length trousers, a short-sleeved or sleeveless top) already provides a touch of summer, and to emphasise further, I chose a waterfall necklace in aqua... not only a quintessentially summery color, but also a perfect match to the race track colour of the Circuit 24 Faubourg!

Capsule pieces: black trousers and tank top
Shoes: black ballet flats
Accessories: Hermès 'Circuit 24 Faubourg' 90 Carré and Kelly Dog bracelet in black croc, MT Collection waterfall necklace in aqua
Scarf tying method: scarf folded in the basic bias fold, with the ends secured in the basic slide
Scarf ring: MaiTai Collection horn scarf ring in black, grande size (alternatively, you could tie the ends together in a double knot)

Alternativly worn simply in the basic bias fold (Angelique, this would be great with your fabulous scarf weights!)

Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful weekend x

Reader's contributions

This morning, I received a wonderful suggestion via email from Angelique:

Hello Maitai,
In reaction to yesterday's post I would like to suggest a solution for the slippery carré. I put some weight at the ends. You can also easily swing the ends back whenever the are in the way.
Many thanks for sharing, dear Angelique, this is such a great and fun idea! Thank you also for the fabulous pics. I am off to find some weights now...

I also received a wonderful how-to from Gina, answering a reader's question how she achieved the papillon knot featured in the recent 'MaiTai Collection in action' collage. Her guest post is to come soon!

Coming next: summer street style snaps, fresh from Paris...

Capsule wardrobe #61 - Basic bias fold

In an attempt to bring all photo tutorials and how-to's into a video format, and under the motto 'first things first', I uploaded a how-to video of the basic bias fold onto my YouTube channel, which you can also view towards the end of this post.

The basic bias is one of the most essential ways to fold a square silk scarf, not only because it is the starting point for many great scarf knots (Ascot, friendship, criss-cross, criss-cross bow knot, tie knot and many others), but also because it looks fabulous on it's own, when just placed around the neck. What's more, it is a cool way to wear scarves during the warmer summer months.

With 90 Carrés, one needs to be a little bit more careful when going solo, due to the size and material they are prone to slip.. wearing a blazer on top helps to keep them in place (all larger formats, such as cashmere, mousse and silk GMs stay well in place, and to a certain extend, 90 mousses do too).

Capsule pieces: blue jeans, short-sleeved black top and black blazer
Shoes: blue patent pumps
Accessories: Hermès 'Cent plis de Miao' 90 Carré and H clic-clac enamel bangle in bleu indiens
Scarf tying method: basic bias fold (see video below for a how-to)
